Whilst recently abroad I saw a rap video (didn't catch artist), there was a kick boxer dancing around a ring and they were showing clips from a martial arts film with amazing action sequences! any1 heard of this film?

    Thanks.

Wasn't a Jet Li film, the film is new might not even be out in the cinema yet?!
But the actors looked like some new up coming asain stars, i think the band was called 'reed the weed' but i'm not sure and can't find anything useful on them... new kickboxer film...

It sounds like a scene from 'Cradle 2 The Grave'. The rapper would be 'DMX'.

Ong Bak! it's an insanely action-packed martial arts movie made in Malaysia. As far as I know, Luc Besson has got the rights for worldwide distribution... and that song should be part of the new soundtrack that Mr. Besson intends to add to the movie...

Well, the dvd is available at from yesAsia, an other r3 e-tailers. be aware tough, as this edition does not carry english subtitles. on the other hand, if you're willing to wait a couple of months, there is a r1 scheduled to hit the shops. however, that will be the international version, featuring a new edit and soundtrack (courtesy of Mr. Besson ... :nono: )

The Vcd is the cut version But sadly its the only official release with Eng Subs.
The HK dvd is uncut (Cat 3) but has no subs.

Re eBay, there seems to be an official dvd with malay dts 6.1 and english subtitiles. Not sure if its R3 or R2. Have any of these versions been edited/cut to remove mindless violence?

    cheers,
    DT

there is no "official" dvd with English subtitles on it. Fact. Like captaineyecatch said, the only official release with english subs is a cut vcd.
The film's been booted with fan generated subs on it and been made available for download and there's people selling this version as a dvdr through ebay, but nothing's been officially released yet.

There must be some pretty advanced bootleggers out there if they can produce a dvd containing:

Anamorphic Widescreen, Thai DTS 6.1 / Thai 2.0 / Thai 6.1 Dolby digital sound with optional ENGLISH / chinese/ thai / off subtitle

    And the following special features:

    Ja Panom's Fight Chorenographic
Easter Eggs (Hidden messages in the movie from the director)
Casting & Audition: Video of screen test on some of the casts, especially the bad guy.
Story Board Comparison: Drawing of story board and movie scenes comparing side by side.
Demo Scenes: Demo video of Ja Panom's fight scenes, various high speed, High jump Muay Thai moves and techniques unseen in the movie. This video was presented to the movie producer as proposal to make this movie.
    Alternate Ending
    Deleted Scene
    3D Animatic Comparison

    Amazingly sophisticated bootleg IMO!!!!

they've just added english subs to a rip of the existing disc. Not hard at all if you know how and have the software and the inclination.

its been available from numerous online bootleg sites I know of for a while

I'd rather talk a friend into buying it and then rip a copy off him.

It all depends on how much you want the film and how much you'd be prepared to spend on a pirate copy of it.
In a case like this it's not available with english subs officially because of western pressure on the asian source - which imho makes it fair enough to grab a non-kosher copy of it. Plus, it could be the only way to see the original version before it gets a makeover for the western audiences.

Ong Bak is a great film, I have the r3 version which doesn't have any subs. The film is great and you can make out the plot line, anyway the story is okay but the action is amazing. Tony Ja is a bit special - Jackie and Jet better watch out!!!
If you like martial arts you will like it if you like Mauy Thai you will love it.
