I want to improve my off-road motorsports videos (yeah, yeah, video something exciting instead!). Currently use a Sony TRV36E (I think!) old, analogue, getting tired (both of us!) etc. I need to upgrade my camera, go digital etc.

    I need:
    rapid autofocus
    powered zoom
    low-light performance
    good audio
    stills would be nice too

    To satisfy:
    Rapid subject movement
    Sudden, high, variable audio levels
Low lighting (eg UK, 4pm, Autumn/Winter)

It is generally rough terrain and I don't want to lug tons of gear around, eg camera and tripod=OK, camera, tripod, widgets, gadgets, boxes, cables, external batteries=not OK.

Looking at Sony DCR-VX2000 or Canon GL2 as possible cameras or are these 'sledgehammer to crack a nut'?

    Appreciate any thoughts.
