So when your mate/relative comes round for dinner what DVD do you slap out to demo to them?

I traditionally used the beginning of The Mask of Zorro (where he cuts the Z into the screen).

Now though it's the THX trailer from T2 Ultimate Edition or the THX trailer from Toy Story.

For a prelonged viewing it's The Matrix. The scene where Neo and Trinity enter the office building lobby with guns, lots of guns.

It's always The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over in dts for me, first of all.

This both sounds and looks brilliant, and the cheering and clapping audience behind you is just sooooo immersive. This is the disc that sold multi-channel audio to me a few months back. A blast through Hotel California, then a quickie of track 15, errr, can't recall the name.

At the moment I then go for Saving Private Ryan as this has a rather obvious scene at the start.

Unfortunately I just can't tonk the sound volume up that loud, and it doesn't seem to do it justice.

I found The Bone Collector had a good amount of surround effects, but I haven't watched it from a 'demo disc' point of view.

    Lobby scene in The Matrix
    Opening to Lost in Space
    Nightclub scene from Blade (DTS)
    T2 THX trailer
Titan AE..Wake Angels or Ice crystals sequences.
    Intro to Tomorrow Never Dies
Shuttle take off to landing on asteroid from Armageddon (use when I want someone to watch a long sequence)
Chapter 17 of The Haunting DTS...purely for the expression on peoples faces when the sub kicks in!

There are loads more but I have tended to use those mainly.

That is a friends favourite too.......as you say though, it is a bit quick, but still great, as is most of ID4 for that matter.

I suppose I should mention that almost all the Dolby Digital, THX and DTS trailers are great as demo's too.

Here's two killers not yet mentioned - Contact - the intro when the camera pulls back from earth and goes intergalactic. I can't be sure but I think every separate channel has a different piece of music running simultaneously,Highlander (AC3 LD) two sequences here - the 'new york new york' sequence and the final fight on the roof - at one point, roxanne screams really loud from the rear left speaker not for those with heart conditions!

    Beginning of Strange Days
Obviously the THX trailers from T2 and the Toy Story films
    Beginning of Private Ryan DTS

THE demo clip of choice changes from this to the next, but at the moment it has to be the opening crash scene in Pitch Black (DTS). UNREAL.

Me and my mate can have a few beers and watch demo clips ALL night... and we do. [IMG]

I have found putting a Demo for Saving Private Ryan in DTS will make them go "WOW, i want one of these Home Cinema's"

Fifth Element has some good demo sequences, best of which is the opera scene IMO. Not from a surround point of view, but great quality of sound & picture. If you want a good DTS bass demo you should try U571 Chapter 15 "depthcharged". Its also a good scene to compare DD to DTS as it has both. The DTS really blows the DD out of the water literally!

The roof fight scene in The Matrix where the camera circles Neo, you can see peoples heads follow the sound of the gun firing.

It's quite funny watching people try and do a 360 with their heads! [IMG]

So far pretty much everything has been covered, but special mention has to go to my current demo. The opening few minutes of Toy Story 2. Excellent sound and possibly the best picture on a DVD ever. M:I2 and Patriot are also a couple of new ones that I use.
I find it hard to choose these days as the general overall quality of DVD's and movies has been spectacular in recent months.
This makes me a very happy boy! [IMG]

I was atempting to create my own demo discs by copying the best bits from my collection onto my hard drive and playing themt hrough my PC DVD.
I have found a program that will stitch clips togaterh but not a good way of cutting the chapters into the actual scenes that i want.

Jeeeeez boys, You've missed out some real obvious ones.
    JP-the T-Rex attack (Wet pants)
Apollo 13-the take off (tears, all overcome wiv emulsion)
The Fugative- the train crash ( sheer awe)
Twister-the opening storm (all of the above!)

Has anyone got the Sony 200 disc auto changer DVD player? I was wondering if you can put all your demo sequences into the memory, & just play them? Or will you still get asked to select DTS, etc?
I wanted one of these players, but it was just too big. Wouldn't fit in my eqipment rack. My DSPA-1 already takes up the top shelf.

One of my favs is Das Boot - when the Destroyer is hunting them. You get great extremes from the breathing of the crew and to the ticking of the watch to the depth charges.

I remember watching this one time and wandering upstairs at this point, thinking the amp wasn't up that high. Soon as the 1st depth charge went off the whole frickin floor moved! I nearly had kittens [IMG]

    Other demo favs -

    SPR
    Matrix
    5th Ele
    Mask of Zorro
    JP
    Glory (Battles)
