Hi

I just got a little tax rebate of £200 (woohoo) and I'm thinking of upgrading my current setup.

At present I have :-

AMD64 3000+ Venice
Geforce 6800LE
768MB Ram
Abit UL8 M1689 (not upgrading)

I am looking at spending £80 on a AGP GFX card
1. GeForce 7600GS 256 MB DDR2 £78
or
2. Sapphire Radeon X1650 PRO 256MB GDDR3 £72

For Ram
Crucial 1GB kit (512MBx2) DDR PC2700 (My other RAM is PC2700) £45

Processor
1. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 Dual-Core Socket 939 £88
or
2. AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Socket 939 San Diego £41 (To save money but possibly overclock)

So do you think they are worthy upgrades ?, any suggestions would greatly appreciated !

Thanks,
Marcus

upgrade the CPU first, those are more likely to go out of sight sales wise soonest....go for the X2 4200 if you plan on video editing etc.....if its just gaming and a minor bit of surfing then perhaps go for the 3700 or faster....

then sell of your current CPU, you might get a few quid for it, and buy a 1950 if you are PCI-E, if not buy the fastest AGP you can afford.....then, once you got that, sell of your 6800 again for a few quid and get some more memory...

thats the order i'd do it in :)

Hi

It would be for gaming, watching HD stuff, unraring and quickparing etc. Basically multitasking alot !

Then assuming you're not currently bound by the hdd go for the dual core cpu upgrade as suggested above.

He has £200, and looking at the prices I think He can buy all 3 :) If you could squeeze a little extra and get the 7600GT, it only costs £10 more, but it gives much better performance :)

Or if you do it like knight guy says, buy and sell :), but the trouble is I don't think you would sell any of your parts for very much at all :-(
