    Hello,

I am again in an unpgraditis stage... A BIG one :suicide:

I am almost set for a SVS SB12-plus (just need to be sure it will be more than enough for a 24 m2 room), and I want to upgrade my dvd player, too (the headphone amp story is another story... a long one, too).

I have currently a Denon DVD1400, which I bought new for 200 euro, and is excellent for that money. Unfortunately, the 2 MB buffer is not enough, and I want to get rid of the pause when changing layer. A HDMI output would be desirable too, although the blue jeans component cables already improved the picture quality a lot with my Sanyo Z4. Divx support is also marginally missed.

when I started my research for a new player, I was amazed. BluRay, HD-dvd, format war... I decided "I want it all" (yes, I am a big Queen fan :D ), but I have enough boxes in my living room, so I want an "all-in-one" solution.

Good news are Denon will release a multi-format player in the future, bad news are I don't know when, and it will be expensive (7000 euro!). So it will take even longer to have such a machine in the <1000 euro region.

I wonder if I should go for a Denon 2930, which will improve every aspect but BR and HD-DVD, or I should keep saving for a universal HD player. Opinions?

I have a PS3 for BD and an HD-E1 for HD DVD.

If I had neither, and was just starting out, I'd probably be buying the new Sammy dual-format player.

If it comes out later than 31st of October and is 1.1, that 'probably' would be 'definitely'.

Thanks for your answer, Steve, but I am afraid that player won't play SACD or DVD-Audio, which my current player does. Probably I should state more specifically what I mean by multi-format:

    DVD video
    DVD audio
CD (although I leave this task for my Cambridge Audio Azur 640)
    SACD
    BR
    HD-dvd
    divx
    (S)VCD
    MP3
    JPEG

I am a bit surprised by your "definitely" regarding the 1.1 HDMI... I thought everyone was aiming at 1.3 nowadays...

    Edit: Impressive home-cinema room, BTW.

Steve's referring to Blu-ray Final Standard Profile (aka profile 1.1) not HDMI 1.1.:)

I've got the same kit as you and I seconded your thoughts on buying the Sammy.

In fact, if it weren't for Mrs Kudos demanding that I keep the PS3 for the new SingStar game coming out,
I'd sell the E1 and PS3 and get the Sammy for shoo-oor.

    Kudos
