Hiya, I currently have a Sony DG500 6.1 receiver. This is a model before all the HDMI became standard. Will it be worth upgrading to a new unit with HDMI and HD audio?

I currently use Virgin, and my PS3 through the receiver, and the sound is great via my Q Acoustic speakers. I do feel that I'm not getting the best from my Blu-ray though, and I love watching films.

So if it is worth upgrading, do I go for the Sony dh800, Yamaha 565, both around £260, or maybe the Onkyo 607 for £40 more?

I feel it is worth upgrading to get HD audio from your PS3.
If you like the sound from your Sony then sticking to the Sony 800 will probably give you results you will like. The Yamaha is a good reciever (arguably better than the Sony) but it is a much different sound (warm compared to the bright Sony) so you may not like the sound produced. I would try to get a demo of the 3 you mention to see which you prefer.

Thanks for the fast reply, looks like a trip to RS for a demo then!!

I've gone for the Onkyo 607, which seems abit of a steal at only £299
