    Hi,

    I have a 2GB P4 PC, PS2 & Gamecube (and a mothballed N64!).
I seem to be missing an Xbox and everyone seems to be raving about Halo.

Now that the Xbox is down to £199 is it worth buying just on the pretext of wanting to play Halo or are there any other good Xbox games out there, or good value all in one packages that would really tip the ballance in favour of the Xbox?

    Anto.

I have a PS2, GC and XBOX. Over the past couple of months I have played the XBOX more than the other two (even straight after the GC launch). Halo has taken up most of my time but there are a number of other games that are worth a look:

    Jet Set Radio Future
    Dead or Alive 3
    Rallisport Challenge
    Tony Hawks 3
    Project Gotham Racing
    Amped

As you have a decent PC, you can probably forget about Championship Manager 3 and Max Payne although I think both of these are good.

    I have to disagree

Project Gotham Racing seem tocrawl along for me. I just don't think it feels like your racing

Also Dead or Alive 3 I got through 9 levels with the same swepp move :(

    No need to apologise!

To be honest, I have played Rallisport far more than PGR but I know a lot of people prefer PGR so I included it in the list. I do think the Kudos system is well implemented, escpecially when you consider what a disaster is was in MSR on the Dreamcast.

I don't played DOA3 for hours on end but it is good to pick up occasionally. It's not a patch on Soul Calibur but then few things are.

The aim of my post was really to point alivingstone is the direction of games that I had experience of and thought were good. If I had to recommend three games for the XBOX, I would go for Halo, Amped and JSRF.

So far, I've got Halo, DOAIII, and Jet Set Radio Future, and if I don't buy another game, I'll still feel like I got my moneys worth on the system.

Dead or Alive, while not the deepest fighting game ever, is certainly the best looking; and it's still a very good game. The level design is staggering, and really brings the game to life. You're not just fighting on a 2D platform with a fancy looking backdrop image; you're actually fighting in a river, or on the roof of a building. After an intense 3-hour Halo session, it's good to throw on DOA for some mindless violence.

Sure, the game library isn't up to scratch with the PS2, but that's because the system just came out. The quality games that are out now are certainly enough to keep me busy until the next wave of killer games.

    Cheers guys,

I'm into first person shooters, action adventure, strategy, driving and flight games. (Sorry don't like beat em up's or football!).

Some of my favorite games so far - not exhaustive or in any order:

N64: Golden Eye, World is Not Enough, Donkey Kong 64
    Gamecube: Rogue Squadron
    PS2: GTA3, MGS2, Silent Hill
PC: C&C, Operation Flashpoint, Ghost Recon, Wolfenstein, Medal of Honour, basically any combat games FPS, strategy or in any vehicle (I have a need to kill people  ).

I just feel like I'm missing a large part of my gaming life by not having Halo!

Has anyone seen any good package deals on offer anywhere lately??

    Cheers,

    Anto.

For me, Halo was worth the admission price alone.

I'm not tempted by any of the other games out for Xbox, but as halo is taking me a while, I'm in no rush to buy another.

However, you may find that as a PC owner, halo does not give you anything particularly new over what you have already played.

My mate played my halo the other day, and whilst he said he'd seen it all before on PC, he did say it was the best implementation of an FPS on a console.

Also, Halo is coming out on PC, so you could wait for that ?

I've been playing video games for over twenty years. ( like when galaxians was the coolest thing going becasue it was in colour(s))

Halo is the best game I've ever played.

I'm now slowly making my way through it on legendary after completing it on normal and heroic and I still have to tear myself away from each session even though I've effectively seen it all twice!

It also feels much more immediate than any fps I've played on the PC ( including wolfenstien and medal of honour)

I'm tired again this morning - reason ?

Playing Halo until the early hours again. It really is very very good. The AI is scary, the controls are good and the level design is excellent.

As for the PC version, I gave up PC gaming about a year ago. I love the instant 'fix' you can get from a console i.e you have a spare 15 mins, so a quick go on Dead or alive and your done, not spending about 10 minutes booting up and wondering if it's going to work. Plus Halo via my 40" RPTV with 5.1 through my Rotel THX system is amazing - beats a 17" monitor everytime. I also spend all day at work looking at a PC hunched over a keyboard - it's nice just to be able to play a game in your front room sitting on a nice sofa !

Drifting off the point there - get the Xbox with Halo you won't be dissapointed

I've played a lot of PC FPS ( all of them) and not one has the immediacy and flow of Halo on the pad on the Xbox.

    sorry to hi-jack, but

I've spent a month decorating my lounge, so have just played the first 5 levels of halo all on my TV in the kitchen.
When the lounge is done, I'll be able to re-set-up my 6.1 system, 250w sub, and 8' wide progressive scan screen to play halo.

Every night I have a dilema, play Halo just a bit more, or hold-off until my proper system is ready again.
Every night I give in, and power up the xbox.:(

Have to agree, feel priviledged to have played Halo - absolutely worth the asking price of an X-Box alone and the best game i have ever played, i have played since the zx81 and am far to old for this sort of thing really but Halo is just THAT good. I rather think all else will be a disapointment by comparison until Halo 2 in December perhaps.

    Steve.

This game just gets better and better. I finished the game in Co-op mode before I had played single player. I am now going through on my own and it's a different game. The attachment you feel to the marines is greatly increased and you really do feel on your own when the team is wiped out. Haven't felt this immersed in a game since Zelda:OOT.

Awesome and worth the price of an XBOX alone (and I paid £299!)
