Does anyone know if its worth buying a damaged (with a cracked screen) 8G 42" Pioneer plasma really cheaply (eg. £50-£100) and getting the screen replaced at your own cost? Any ideas what Pioneer would charge to replace a cracked screen and possibly plastic frame /trim?

No its not worth it , the screen is approx 80% the cost of the unit. Replacement screens at 42 inch are not easily come by and the units are constructed in such a way as to make removing and replacing them by hand extremely hard to do without causing further damage.

The manufacturing process is pretty much entirely automated.

plus I'm sure they dont do a 42" panel anymore so you wouldnt get a panel from Pioneer, couldnt the current owner claim on his/her insurance if it was damaged at home?

There are a couple of Pioneer 50" 508's and 42" 427/8's damaqed items on eBay which companies are selling. Just wondered if it was worth buying one cheaply and getting it repaired. I will probably just hold out for a mint one on the forums here.

I have a 50PF10 that Business Post smacked the living crap out of if you want it. Also have a LX508D that Business Post butchered beyond belief. Have already chucked out the 42PH10 that Business Post obviously thought was a trampoline....
