I'm no expert where plasmas are concerned as this is my first. I have to say though, I'm very pleased with my 506.

lets just say i am sceptical of the HiFi press infact the whole press but especially the HiFi press ( and 5 star reviews are enormously assisted by full page adverts)

    Fair enough. :)

I can't really compare it to other plasmas as I've no experience with any other Ones.

thats the problem we should be able to rely onn the press to do fair and accurate comaprisons but banding around titles like "worlds finest plasma!" is neither scientific or balanced and every one loves what they own and geting a comparible demo is nigh on impossible i have managed it once 5 screens 1 room all fed same source at same time and set up to a even level!

    roflmmao....

typical HCC. Reminds me of the time i was into What HiFI and their loony front cover headlines when I was a naive boy starting on the road to Hifi Nirvana. Funny thing is within a month they had changed their tiny minds!

Lets put it this way: I never bought one product from their best buy listings and went down the expert specalist dealer route. Waht did I end up with?

    Naim CDS2
    Naim NAC 282
    Naim NAP 250 2
    Naim SuperCap Power Supply
    ProAc 125 2

    Get the lesson, gang???

OK. Heres my challenge to anyone who buys a Pio TV (!!!) on any review basis - if you come and see my PDP and can tell me honestly the Pio is better than my Fuji 50XHA40US even naked - for example- or a PHD7/8...you can fookin well have my panel for nothing. Price promise.

    MAW?

HCC just give the best reviews to who ever pays the most for advertising in the mags. i think there was a post in the AV reciever forums about this, virtually no other company other than denon ever win any awards yet people who had heard this recieiver sad it was not the best. take reviews which a pinch of salt, go along compare the screens that interest you and make your choice dont just go on what the press say.

    Hi Dil

What a cracking offer, I'll be round this afternoon.

I will most probably cheat though. I'll bring a Fuji dressed up as a PIO.

Have the box standing by so I can make a quick getaway!!

What are you all talking about. Everyone knows that the most impressive and unimagainably advanced Plasma (or any kind of viewing device concieved or yet to be invented for that matter) was the Tiny range of Plasma TV's. (Anyone new to this forum Im joking..please dont touch Tiny kit with anything unless it is a shell being propelled with great force from the big gun of a modern tank). :)

    Uhhh!

Used to have a PWD5 myself and it was quite good.

BTW, why do you say the PWD4 was the best they ever made?

Was it after the 4 series they introduced that half cell drive thingy. I know my PWD5 used to flicker on bright scenes such as a blue sky.

    Gerald. :)

Gerald, wrong way around, the 4 series had the dual processing still on the HD, they 'halved' it to cut costs for the 5 series. Last time I checked, 1/2 of 2 was 1? And Uglymoose, are you taking my name in vain there? Dilsher, you needn't ask my opinion here surely! BTW mate, the guys are looking for somewhere to meet up after the hi fi show, got any suggestions??

Yeah, sure we do. You would know, of course. It's statements like this that explain why most magazine professionals steer well clear of forums. It's not good for the blood pressure. Just how much advertising have we had from Pioneer over the year? To be honest, I don't know - but I bet it's not much.
The Pioneer got the headline because it is without doubt the best performing plasma we have yet seen. The tech measurements alone are outstanding.
If someone likes Panasonic produces a better screen in two months, then they would get the accolade. That's the way it works, and that's what makes the subject interesting.

Dilsher, the show is at heathrow, there is a thread linked from the forum front page about a meet up, they were discussing a Curry in Brick lane.

Mr editor, sir.... How is it that 99% of professional installers, cedia maber firms etc find it hard to get a top picture on the Pioneer? Perhaps we'd better pop round for lessons? I'm actually a fairly open-minded kind of person, and approached my 1st Pioneer 506XDE with a certain level of excitement, but it was little different to the previous model. It seems to me that the 'TV' part is a bit of a 'wriggle out', it's a consumer device so should not be compared to Dilsher's screen, or the PHD8 perhaps? How about a high end shootout sometime, panels and scalers then? They are not even that much more expensive, a good scaler is under £700, panels generally a bit cheaper than TV's. Hope that's not going to raise your blood pressure, it'd be interesting to see what your guys make of a properly configured setup like that, keeping cost within touch of the TV types, compared to an out of the box TV.

Had a look at the new Panasonics being made in the Prague plasma factory, and they look very nice. We are still waiting for review samples to come in, but it will be very interesting to compare them with the new Pioneer range.

So is that TV's or panels? They make them both there.
