Ok I changed my entry for this month to what has been suggested: the whole Ecosphere.

As you will have guessed I've changed the biggest part of the photo to grayscale only keeping the alguae and one schrimp in colour. I hope that's allowed... Apart from that I haven't changed anything.
The picture was taken with a simple Fuji S3500 camera with a close up lens on.

It does look a little out of focus, but i presume thats the glass that makes the 'ecosphere'. Took me a while to make the shrimp out as the eye is immediately led to the largish rock just under the shrimp.

How big is the ecosphere itself?

The glass does it, there are also lots of particules floating in the water that don't help the camera and also reducing the size of the file :)

You can get 3 different sizes of Ecospheres, I have the small oval one (looks like an elongated egg shape - you can get a completely round one) which is 13 cm high.
The biggest one is like 23cm in diametre but it costs a fortune.

Makes me wonder Jenn, if a shot of the ecosphere itself might be better, you should get a much better picture of that, and it could be argued that it would be more on-theme.

    Just a thought mind :)

I thought about it but the shrimps are really tiny so you wouldn't see them on the picture... I'll give it a try and see if I can come up with a good picture.

Don't change a thing! This is a wonderful photo. I really like the effect: the light coming in from the top hints at the much bigger world outside the sphere.

I also like the off-centre composition, with the branches leading up to the light.

It reminds me of a Yes album cover for some reason, but that's no bad thing.

I really want one of those ecospheres but they're just so ridiculously priced.
