    Hello

Today I was listening to music, specifically So What (Miles Davis) and I realized the 2 low woofers from my left speaker were vibrating quite noticeably. I was playing FLAC 24/96 through Plex. Just for curiosity I switched to Spotify, played the same song, same album release, same volume, and the woofers did not vibrate, nothing

I have no idea why, but I am curious... are FLAC, or any hi-res format, putting more SPL in the system??

More than likely a wider dynamic range with the FLAC files. Spotify is not MP3, but OGG Vorbis and between 90-320kbps depending on your account and settings, so not a patch on a well ripped FLAC file. Lossy vs Lossless

Different sources may play at different volume levels and it also depends on the mixing of the track.

The only way to tell is with an SPL meter to balance the volume accurately.

Resolution affects the higher frequencies more than bass.

I have Spotify premium, streaming at 320kbps.

I have to reckon that I do not notice much difference in SQ between Spotify and FLAC... but the woofers clearly notice the difference

Thanks for the info, I did not know the dynamic range could physically impact on the speakers

Am assuming the sound wasn't distorting just that you could visibly see the woofers moving more with FLAC ?

How loud where you listening ?

I would still have expected them to move with Spotify otherwise I would expect an audible difference ?

The FLAC version may have more low frequency, as FLAC is a bit-perfect compression codec.
Spotify may use subsonic/supersonic filters before a lossy compression, in order to allocate more bits for the all important midrange, sacrificing some extreme frequencies.
Your system is capable of reproducing these low frequencies, and therefore the bass drive movements.

But you should hear\feel the difference in that case then.
