Planning the home cinema installation. I have all the technical stuff worked out and its only the stand that is holding me up.

Its going to house the following:

    Sky+
    DVDR
    Freeview
    Quintro Switch
    Amp
    CD Player
    JS RGB>VGA

On top of it, I just want the centre speaker for neatness.

The plasma will be wall mounted above.

I want a wide, low unit.

I started off with an Optimum or Alphason in mind. I like the styling, but the trouble is to get wifey approval the whole thing has got to be neat.

I've done a quick count and there will be some 30 cables and leads behind the cabinet and if I am to get planning permission (from the wife!) these would need to be as hidden as possible.

So I my thinking is now with a wooden unit with a back. I want something that is of reasonable quality (so that rules out Argos and Ikea etc). It must also be of light coloured wood (solid or veneer) such as birch, beech or oak (not pine).

Trouble is, I've not been able to find anything - any ideas where to try, websites etc.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

    Nigel,

What sort of budget are you playing with? It does not cost the earth to have a cabinet custom made. This way you get the technical spec you require for your kit and the (Mrs.) can select the finish to meet with her own requirements.

You will need to shop around. I am having a cabinet made for my gear, which is over 12 ft wide and I have had quotes from 6k to 1.5k. I could go and buy the materials myself and put the cabinet together, but for a 12ft unit it would be a nightmare.
