People, what's wrong with their wiring?

Okay, in the balance of fairness I've been ordered asked to put this little tale in this thread by my wife...

I ordered a new TV and a Sonos Playbar recently, both of which we're quite enjoying. However, one major annoyance with the Playbar is that when I'm working in the corner of the living room at my desk (about 20 feet away from the TV) and Doris is watching TV, she has it turned up really loud. To the point when (and I've been told to quote this);

'Tell them on the forum that you sent Doris for a hearing test'

Which may or may not be true. Anyway, brushing over the minor inconvenience of a hearing test she didn't need; the wife's hearing test showed she has perfect hearing. Whoops :blush:

Moving on with the tale;
My wife was moving around the living room yesterday and commented that the volume was actually very loud in the corner where I sit and was at a far more sensible listening level where she was sat on the sofa. I sat where she was and totally agreed with her.

Very slowly, the penny dropped...

Part of the setup of the Playbar for those unfamiliar is called 'Trueplay'. What this involves is that you open the 'Trueplay' settings within the Sonos app on an iPhone (I don't believe it works on Android? @HaRd2BeAr?) and the the phone starts listening with it's microphone. The Playbar emits a series of beeps and other noises and you have to walk around the room, waving the phone up and down like some sort of lunatic. The App then collates all of this information and transmits it to the Playbar, which then tunes all of the speakers to throw sound to where it's needed.

When I did this setup initially, I had walked over by my desk with the phone, so the Playbar was using some of it's speakers on one side to make sure I had a decent level of sound in the corner (which I didn't want). After re-running the 'Trueplay' setting yesterday, but only moving around in the area where we sit, it's tuned much better now and I can hear myself think again when at my desk.

My wife thought that this was hilarious when I worked it out last night and thought that the guys and girls of AVF, with it being an AV Forum might also enjoy my technical faux pas. :)

No it doesn't work on Android :(

Oh Matt, at least you're wife hasn't scored any tech points against you... :blush:

Sorry pal, I'm a John.... (one of the most boring names in the universe! Except for American hero's ie John Wayne, John McClane John Rambo etc etc).

Drives me absolutely bonkers when they ask a question and already have an expected answer. Any answer that is not identical to hers warrants an earful :eek:
