    Hi,

There are also two other HD-DVD WMV9 players coming.
At CES Apex Digital will display a new model, and also KiSS/Revoy will anounce a new model DVD player DP-600. Both will be able to play back WMV9.

Look here for the press release:

    Q. If/when the WMV9 compatible dvd players arrive will they require a modem?

Ie. T2 requires your pc to dial out to get the licence before playing. (Will this be done away with)?

It increasingly appears that a modem will NOT be required. This is still unconfirmed as yet but once the players appear we'll know for sure.

If they do it'll be the kiss of death IMO .. of course, it does beg the question of how they'll enforce region coding, and you can bet your life that'll not be so easy to defeat as with current players.

I'm hoping the new networked KiSS player will be up to the job, I have a 450 and it's okay though a bit on the 'beta' level when it comes to some decoder problems which hopefully are fixed by the new Sigma chip .. I like my networked MP3 player and this KiSS will do the same for WMVs etc.

The new KISS DP600 should be available from 20 Jan. The specs look impressive, as does the price: only £250. I wonder whether it will playback my WMA lossless audio DVDs (archived from CDs, LPs etc) without having to comandeer the services of an outboard computer...and display some kind of menu for file navigation purposes using the r/c. DKM.
