    Hi...

I was wondering if there are any good quality wireless speakers on the market. I'm not too worried about price but they really need to do a good job.
These are going to be used as rears for music and movies.

    Any ideas???

    Thanks,
    S

Weird. A guy at work just asked me the same question. I don't know of any wireless speakers - I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to transmit a signal to the speaker, but what about the power?

I think the issue is with the current quality of the signal that is being transmitted. When compared with traditional wired speakers I do not think wireless are in the same league - yet!

Really? I would have thought transmitting an audio signal would be quite easy, it's only of limited bandwidth compared to video signals and we seem to transmit those ok.

Yup, just sounds like rubbish implementation to me. AFAIK there is no reason why a "wireless" speaker system could not work as well as a "wired system", it's all about bandwidth after all. Could be wrong I suppose I'm not a radio engineer, although I do know one so I might ask him. However this doesn't get round the fact that wireless speakers need at least one wire, that plugged into the power socket

I would have thought, but like you I am no expert, that if wireless was straight forward there would be more manufacturers producing wireless speakers? Tons of Fun may be able to shed more light on the subject......TONNSSS!

Well it's not straightforward, what I guess you'ld need is all the manufacturers of electronics to agree a standard set of wireless protocols, get a piece bandwidth assigned to them in all of the countries where they sell their gear and get a bunch of speaker companies to start producing active speakers with the relevent reception devices built in. Maybe Bluetooth or Wi-Fi would be adequate?

I guess the more hi-end digital focused companies like Meridian could build their own proprietory wireless systems but you'ld still need a lot of power sockets and cabling.
