Ok Currently have the internet running directly into my laptop (Cable has to be plugged into this for the internet to work as its regestered to the laptop) Looking for a way to bridge the laptop so it shares the internet with an xbox 360 ino a router wont work as the internet is regestered to the laptop. Dont know to much about the subject but looking for a way to connect the 360 to the laptop so they share the same connectiong any help would be appriciated as its driving me insane :smashin:

The simplest way is to buy a router. I you have Cable (Virgin Media) you need a so-called cable router. Anything else you need one with a built-in ADSL modem.

Try a quick search here on how to.

As stated a router wont work as the internet is regestered to the laptop so doesnt work if the cable is plugged into the console directly has to go via the laptop:thumbsdow

Try some more explanation of your setup. However in the meantime.

If your laptop is connected via Ethernet (?) and the service registered to your Laptop's Ethernet Adapter's MAC Address, you need is a Cable Router that can accept a Locally Administered (MAC) Address. Take the MAC addresses of your laptop's adapter an enter in into the router as a LAA. (Can't help with which routers have a LAA facility.)

Sorry basicaly the university only allow you to conenct one device to the university internet, so once you first plug the ethernet cable into the laptop you get a box appear asking you to enter student number etc. btw i only have one ethernet port on the laptop to :thumbsdow

Does your laptop have a PCMCIA port, if it does; you can acquire a PCMCIA Ethernet adapter, you now have two Ethernet ports, now enable internet connection sharing on your primary adapter, connect the Xbox to the secondary adapter, configure an IP address for the secondary adapter as well as an IP address and subnet mask for the Xbox.
You can get a better explanation on the official Xbox site and forum.

Consider getting and old Pentium 3 computer, you can install several Ethernet adapters into desktop computers therefore you can have several Ethernet devices accessing the net but using just one MAC address. All you need to is inform your college network administrator of the change of computer and MAC address.

If you decide to go with the addition computer option – you can get Pentium 3 computers at very low prices, I can buy them at my local jumble sale to £5 each. The college might even give you one free of charge. There are many organisations and community groups that specialise in refurbishing computers and selling them at low prices or giving them away free of charge.

Now i dont have one of them its the samsung r510 laptop im using if that helps, may consider the old pc idea just dont like the fact of have another computer up here is all:thumbsdow

That is what I figured and so my answer stands.

Any simpler explanation at all bud? as the other one seems right but has completly lost me :D

You can get USB2 devices that provide an Ethernet port. For example this device has one. In Windows you can then configure Internet Connection Sharing. Connect the lappy to the internet port as usual and connect the ethernet port on the USB device to the XBox 360. I think I used an ethernet crossover cable to connect the XBox360 to the USB hub. For example see this

The "D-Link DUB-E100 USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Adapter" seems to be available from PCWorld. You can probably get a cross over ethernet cable from them as well. Maplin may be another place to look.
