I am having a problem with my son's computer, it seems to be flashing messages regarding Windows XP pro validation, not done this before, I think he must have activated the WGA, Is there a workaround for this?

Any help appreciated

Cheers

yes there are workrounds but nothing that can be discussed here as it's considered copyright circumvention..

WGA cannot be manually activated, it is now built-in to XP as part of Microsoft's anti-piracy initiative. WGA was added to XP as a patch, so when your PC was last updated the WGA patch was probably installed then, hence this message.

What could have happened is that whoever originally installed XP on your son's PC used an XP disk that had already been used on another PC, and WGA has now detected this.

As XP now fails the WGA test it can still be used, but you won't be able to download any more updates. The only way round this it to buy a new copy of XP I'm afraid.

The price of a new copy of XP pro is probably worth more than the current value of that machine.:(

Pity, as there is nothing wrong with it, I used it for a few years before he had it with no problem, strange.

do you have a sticker on the side of the pc case /or on a booklet with a product code or
c.o.a(Certificate of Authenticity) if you do you will have a case with microsoft and may get it reactivated

Can't find any stickers, Have got an official Xp pro disk, but the sticker must have got mislaid.

its the sticker(c.o.a) that is the important bit

with out that you wont have a bats chance in hell with microsoft
even with the c.o.a thay can be a pain sorry:(

you can always use magic jelly bean keyfinder to find your key and try a reinstall with the disk that you have but be prepared for the worst and make sure you back up all important data 1st

genuine windows can be purchased for £53.00

if you dont have a driver disc for your motherboard you can use drivermax its a free program that extracts all your current drivers and then saves them for you on reinstall you can then reinstall them
