    Hi everyone

I hope you all had a great Christmas!!!!!

I'm having difficulty networking my 360 to my PC.

When I switched on the PC it picked up that a new xbox 360 was connected to the network.

I've downloaded windows media connect but when I run it I get the following message:

"An error has occurred while attempting to authorise your xbox 360 for use with windows media connect. To manually authorise your xbox 360 or change windows media connect settings, select start > control panel on the computer."

Start > control panel and then what????

I've went thru the PC setup on the 360 itself and have the "key" that's required to enter during the setup process on the PC but can't get any further.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Cheers

Are you guys trying to use it as a media extender (ie you are running Media Centre 2005 or Vista?

Or just browse vids and music? I think WMP11 has all the media sharing gubbins built into it without needed WMC.

If you want to stick with WindowsMediaConnect, IIRC you have to go to the media connect app in the control panel, ensure all is working there, that "Folder sharing is started" and you might want to look for the "reset firewall" setting that foxed me for a bit at first.

However, I now WMP11 and configure it all in there. Only thing is that you need to run Media Player at least once on your PC since the last reboot for it all to be started and data visible to the XBOX.

If you install WMP11 you mught find the box cant find your data at first - choose the "test connection" option and choose your PC from the list provided - all should work from there on in.

    HTH

Yes....I'm running windows media centre and am looking to use the 360 as a media extender.

Sorry to sound like a complete tube here but what is the "media connect app in the control panel"....?

I've tested the connection via the 360 and all I get is that no pc is connected!!!!

I've also downloaded WMP11 but can't seem to figure out what to do with that either.

Tried running the media connect exe file again tonight but still getting the same error message.

Any further advice would be very welcome.

    Thanks

    This may help someone...

I recently formatted my PC, and upon reinstalling Windows Media Connect, it found the 360 easily enough, but the 360 couldnt find the PC. After switching ALL firewalls off the problem still existed. It turned out that my anti virus pivacy policy (McAfee) was preventing the sync. Uninstalled it, and hey presto, it worked!!!

    Thanks for the replies.

I've now managed to get things working via both WMP11 and TVersity for pics and music.

I have a couple of movies in .mpg format which I thought would play when connected via TVersity but when I select "Video" from the 360 menu I get a message stating that no video was found.

I've created sharing folders via TVersity and pointed them to my shared media files (music/pics/movies/recorded TV) but am having no joy with anything other than music and pics. Any TVersity specialists out there that could offer an opinion?

It's still annoying that the media centre set up process will not work at all using windows media connect. Tried it again last night after getting everything working thru WMP & TVersity but still the same error message.

Networking it via media centre would still be my preferred option (or getting things fully working via TVersity) so if anyone can assist then please let me know.

Thanks again for all the advice so far.
