    Hi

Anyone out there know if I can use windows media player 9 to record MP3' s from my own cd collection onto my hard drive (for own personal use - i.e. to use as a radio station in Grand theft Auto Vice City)

So far it only seems to allow me to convert CD tracks into WMA files and GTA-VC doesnt recognise them

Any help would be greatly appreciated:)

Windows Media Player 9 in it's standard form will only copy music to your HD in wma format unfortunately.

There are some plugin's available here though, which you might find useful :)

Can't comment on the PowerDVD front, but with regards to "free" software, you could try some of these programes...

    here
    here

Plenty more on www.downloads.com if you do a search for "WMA Convertor" :)

They're probably not as user friendly as the WMP plugins due to the fact that they're seperate programmes, but at the end of the day they do the same thing :)

I don't know of a source for free WMP plugins I'm afraid but maybe somebody else will comment.

PFM, try the SLD codec pack. I'm still unsure of the legality of this package as although Fraunhofer have released the MP3 codec into the public domain, I think that they retained copyright, but it will do what you want very well.

    Here's an indirect link: http://www.google.com/search?q=sld+codec+pack&start=0&start=0

Download it from the official site ;)
