Hiya - are there any disadvantages to using the wind filter feature on camcorders?

As well as reducing the sound of wind on the microphone, does it deteriorate the sound quality in any way?

    Thanks.

wind noise is made by wind physically striking the microphone element, electonic wind filters usually attenuate the sound where they camcorder THINKS this is happening, and may filter out a specific bandwith of audio.

You are at the mercy of the camera, say you were on a beach and wanted the sound of the waves breaking, then the cam might hear this is wind noise then reduce the audio.

The better option is a physical wind jammer over the microphone, google for rycote and see what they offer. Rycote stuff isn;t particularly cheap, but it works and works well. Far preferebale to electronic filtering (which you may forget is on)
