Since I didn't buy SKY+HD for the BBC then of course not but a Freesat HD box will be replacing my PACE 2200 and hopefully there will be FTA HD still offered by the BBC in a years time.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for ITV HD just because they are backing a service that supports HD, they already have access to such a beast and ignore it.

No, but would be great to see itv HD for Champions League and FA Cup.

Though given itv's record - their HD will look as good as the beebs SD :D ...still better than youtube.

    No movie channels, no switch.

I might add a Freesat box if they start showing significant amounts of HD stuff that isn't available via Sky, but I can't see that happening.

No - HD is not the primary reason for having Sky - if Sky were to drop HD altogether I would still stick with Sky rather than go with BBC\ITV Freesat.

    Cheers,

well i will definatly stick with sky for movies and sport but if more channels choose to go FTA i may have to seriously consider getting rid of some of the mixes i currently subscribe to

yep, I will.Only reason I went back to sky is for 1/2 price 12 months offer, as I don't feel it provides enough VFM for me personally. So if a decent offering is put out on FTA, and it includes some HD (and personally, I think HD on ITV and c4 is more likely, at least at first on the free platform) then I'll switch.

I'll be going to freestat in a month or so once my 12 months is up. Not enough HD content worth paying for for me.

Why is there a presumption that a new box would be needed ?

I was going to ask the same question. Any channel launching in a format which couldn't also be picked up by a relevant Sky box would be cutting off the majority of its potential audience.

i dont think anyone is there just presuming that in 2008 when it launches there will be better option on offer than sky boxes, also that more channels will go FTA rather than FTV like they are now and have to stick with skys EPG

like sat PVR that you dont have to pay £10 a month to use and maybe even a better EPG etc
