Wonder if they will ever release the original Star Wars Trilogy?
Apparently they are going to delete the original versions.
The new versions are the best IMHO with improved efects etc. but it would be a shame to completely delete such a piece of movie history, especially as a lot of people seem to prefer the originals.
I like the new versions as well but I would still like to own the original movies
Luca$ hates the originals with a vengeance!! you won't be seeing those except on LD and VHS! Glad I've got my definative edition
o well, looks like my Laserdisc player will remain in the rack for some time yet.
I could quite happily lived with the special editions if Lucas hasnt messed with the music at the end of Jedi. One thing that didnt need to be changed was the music at any point in all three films. It was just wrong to change the music.
Solely for this reason I had to get hold of the dvd versions of the original laserdisks.
Who cares, the DVD boxset was well worth the wait. Lets enjoy it for the superior picture and sound quality.
Even though I agree that the new release is the best release by far I am still going to backup my vids of the originals - tehre's a kind of hokey charm to them and it seems fitting to watch a film aging as recklessly as the watcher
Got my originals on VHS from eBay - £2.50 - bargain!
Are they good quality and in widescreen?
I to was also quite miffed with the change of this.
Are the vhs of the originals good quality does anybody know?
I was hanging on for them t bring out a set with both versions on. I prefer the originals the new ones use garish lasers blast and I do not like the explosion ring.
Coppola allegedly used the original negative to make his new "Redux" version of Apocalypse Now, so the film in it's original format no longer exists. Has not lucas not done the same?
I wouldn't be surprised if the "original" version's of the trilogy miraciously turned up in 10-15 years or so when George has made all the money he can from the Star Wars franchise (unless he does episodes 7,8,9... even though he says he wont )
It is possible to buy the original widescreen laserdiscs and have them converted to DVD format, if you don't have the equpment yourself there are companies to be found on the net who do the transfer, don't know though if it's not cheaper to buy a used laser disc player
Sorry Damo just seen your reply
Yes in wonderful condition with original box too
Are you serious? Changing the music at the end of Jedi was the best thing he ever did to that film.
I thought the original story lines took us to ep 7 and that was it.
I too think that too much has been done to "improve" the originals, of which I have taped versions from the tv and the last release of the original films. I did notice that there are a lot more sound effects in the new ones which aren't needed, even down to a clang when that stromtrooper bangs his head as he enters the room where R2-D2 and C3-PO are hiding. Oh, one more thing, just how do explosions in space get to be ring shaped?.
