Does anyone know if it's possible to make an emulator for PSP to play Gamboy Advance, Snes and mega Drive games and if so are there any software development teams currently working on one. There were GameBoy and Mega Drive emulators available for N-Gage soon after its launch so it may be possible for the PSP, isn't it???

thats because there were roms available to play from those consoles/handhelds matt. The psp is not as quick off the mark and should think it will be a long way off just yet before psp images/roms are available, if at all. umd is a clever format.

I mean a Snes or GameBoy emulator for the PSP so you can play mario or Tetris on the PSP not PSP games on a PC. Sorry if I wasn't clear. So, is it possible to make an emulator for PSP and play roms from the memory stick?

I'm sure well see some emulators on the PSP. Retro gaming is a big market these days so i'm sure a few official ones (and probably some unofficial ones) will be released pretty soon.

I see the unofficial sorftware side of the PSP being HUGE with the machines ability to run programs off the memory sticks. You can litterally download anything to them so the possibilities are only limited by what people want to make for it. There are already MAME, Genesis, SNES etc emulators available for the PS2 so it should be very easy to port these across to PSP.

I would say that the PSP is also an ideal format for playing emulators on as a lot of the old arcade, MD, SNES, GBA games are perfect for the pick up and play nature of the PSP!

I've got various emulators on my iPaq as well (MameCE, Speccy emulator etc.) but the controls aren't that hot. The games run well on it though!

Be interesting to see how securley they have the system locked down to prevent stuff like this.

I imagine the machine will be chipped very shortly, this will dramatically improve the chances of emulators becomming available.

    Downloaded, tried and tested :)

    Works a treat

Now just gotta wait till it supports more than 1 game, has sound, support saveing, full screen support for the PSP etc..... Obviously the benefit of the doubt is given since he's the first one to do it (that we now know of) and he's done a great job so fast.

    Big :smashin:

What now? NES/SNES/MEGADRIVE/MASTER SYSTEM etc.... Bring 'em on

    Interesting stuff here

Mmmmm If it only works on version 1.0 firmware it aint going to work on the US units. It seems pointless developing an emulator which will only run on a tiny proportion of units.

    Mines still 1.0 :D

The emulator works great apart from only being able to support 1 rom, no sound, no save feature and a bit slowish.

But hey, its early days yet. It is inevitable that the emulators that are gonna be available for it in their final release will work on 1.5 as well.

Patience people, (including me, the king of patien :rotfl: dont make me laugh get these things going now, now i tell you  )

I think it's going to be a about a year before you start seeing any "full" and stable emulators for it. There's usually a flood of experimental emulators to start with, but most of the coders give up and move on to something else - after a year you'll see one or two stable ones emerge from coders who have stuck with it.

Ummm Those interested may want to keep an eye out HERE TOO :)

They also have forums that are quite interesting

Personally I cant keep up with all the updates and releases, they seem to be coming fast and hard at the moment. Plenty of bugs/issues to fix, but they seem to be the best at what they do to work things out.

They still gotta get the save features right too :)

Still early days yet, but progress is slowly being made which is the main thing.

I'd imagine in the next couple of months or even weeks they'll figure most the bugs out to fix the probs.

    It only takes time
