Im getting this Sony LCD TV soon=

It has a freeview tuner, and thats all good. But one thing that would be ideal is for it to recieve the HDTV Trials. I live in London for starters if that makes a difference as to whether I can recieve them or not. But yeah, can I get the trial HDTV broadcasts with this tuner?

If not can you reccomend a good value set top box which has this feature :lease:

    thanks in advanced:thumbsup:

No, You cannot receive HD broadcasts with any current Freeview boxes...the ones supplied to the trialists were specially made for that purpose and only made available to about 450 people in the London area who had applied.
The only other way to receive Free-to-air HD is with a Satellite box and dish...or sign up to Sky HD.

AFAIK the tuner cant decode HD trials. That has to be done through a PC at the moment. But hey give it another year or so and they might be broadcasting HD anyways

Yes but bear in mind that these are both just trials at the moment.
Telewest also has some HD VOD content, but still not very much.

Also don't forget that the current clutch of HD 'READY' and 'Compatible' Tv's will not be able to receive HD transmission WITHOUT the use of a set top box.

I heard that the HD committee agreed to use a HD-TV logo for those TVs that will be able to receive, decode and display HD content from an off-air source. IIRC there is only one HD-TV rated machine but I can not remember the manufacturer.

(Sorry for SHOUTING, but I think it is important to highlight these issues and potential miss-selling)

    HTH - Chris
