I have a room 5x2.5mtrs for my home cinema. I have used a Paradigm PD10 for a few years and have been very happy with it. But... I want a more thud and more music ability. Paradigm PD10 smothers music somewhat.

What do you think? Too big for my room?

I'm not too sure that you will get the definitive answer that you are looking for. Size shouldn't be a factor as many people have larger subs than that in smaller rooms but for all the posts here concerning the Monolith it is still very much an unknown quantity.

Kazman has heard one and liked it but he said that he didn't test it with music and I think that whilst one or two forum members may have bought one it has only been in the last few days and no extensive reporting has yet been done.

BK Electronics have a lengthier pedigree in the design and manufacture of subwoofers than many other manufacturers so should know what they are doing if that is any comfort.

    Not too much for me:D

Realistically the only way you will find the answer you seek is to borrow the unit for a week or so. Words of recommendation or favourable reviews can count for absolutely nothing in this instance. Phil Hinton's experience is as good as an example as any to highlight this. If i recall correctly he bought an SVS unit which is both sound in design and performance and has many satisfied, knowledgable owners. Due to the symbiance of room materials (flooring i believe) and the downward firing nature of the sub (i welcome correction if i have recalled this incorrectly) Mr. Hinton found the overall performance to be totally unsatisfactory to his requirements, and ended up substituting the sub (several times i believe!). This is not a fault of the sub or room per se, just an unsuitable pairing if you like. This is not want you want to hear but is the only guarantee of satisfaction.

    Regards

    Steven

We don't have a clue mate. Honest!

    Meanwhile back at the ranch:

    Your question has no answer.

    a) Nobody owns one yet.
    b) All rooms are different.
    c) Nobody knows your taste.
    d) Nobody here knows what they are talking about anyway. (Someone says so on another thread. So it must be true) :suicide:

    Regards
    Nimby

There's a good chance that the Monolith will be right for you, I used to own a PDR10 and whilst it was good at moving air around for movies going up to the next bracket of subwoofers really does make a huge difference in terms of sound quality and appearance particularly with music. I can personally vouch for the XLS200 being a big step up from the PDR10 as I have two and it's extremely adept with both music and movies.

Unfortunately the only sure way of making sure that whichever sub you choose is set up correctly is to become acquainted with some of the technicalities as to why it works and how best to make it work.:)

Sorry Steve.Ex, your answer was simply too honest, down to earth and realistic, I think the point of your and Nimby's advice was missed.

[He NEEDS us to tell him whether it will work in a 5x2.5mtrs room...
He wanted a simple YES or NO...]

Drummerjohn, both Steve.Ex and Nimby both gave you very good and productive advice.

Few of us (I think I can safely say) doubt the Monolith is a going to be a good/great sub for the money, but no-one who is honest can say it will work for your setup/room.

Hope this helps and feels constructive :)

I understand that the whole subwoofer business can be a stab in the dark because there are so many variables, thats why I laughed at Nimbys post, because its true, not because he was talking out of his arse. Steve Ex & Nimby have a wealth of experience and knowledge in subs that I will never reach.

    Thankyou for your help all.

    Good post drummerjohn,
You may be right in that Nimby (spent his youth building subs) and Steve (with 4 Servo 15's!) have a wealth of information but much of it may not be relevant to you. Although I have a background in physics it's amazing how quickly the subwoofer "thing" is to understand once you've grasped the basic principles. With a bit of effort you can be handing out advice with the best of them, confident that your own sub is set up as well as you can manage.

Of course one of the principle benefits of having such a wealth of experience is that it can help us avoid making the same mistakes. :)

Only one person has confirmed that he has both bought and received one and he hasn't posted any review comments at all so it looks like it's down to you to be the guinea pig.

I held off as long as possible in the hope that someone would post a review, but when a chance arose to sell my XLS200 I went ahead and ordered one.
It has just arrived and I am staring at it in disbelief.
It is huge and on a pallet. BK certainly pack their products professionally.
Hopefully I will post first impressions today and a technical one later.
If you are not sure Sunil wait a little longer!

I'm having to wait anyway! Still haven't been paid my back pay, but would want to be able to buy straight away when I do get it. Cheers Sonic65, I'll look forward to your comments.

How does it compare to the XLS200 you had previously with music? Looking forward to further comments
