as a dvd player?
Doubtfull Im afraid.
Sony are paranoid about HDCP.
The PS3 will have a blu ray player built in which means no MR for anything.
If you are after a DVD player that is MR then get a cheap one now.
I think the PS3 is designed to be a Blu Ray player and thus will have the latest HDCP technology. It will of course play DVDs but everything will be regionised. I dont recomend the PS3 as a DVD player at this stage.
Pixie_0 - No games consoles have a region free DVD player in them. The only way you can get region free is my some sort of mod (software or hardware).
why do they regonalize things? i never understood why they do that?
Simply to keep profits in each individual country.
Since consoles tend to be released in one country before another, its very tempting for people to import those machines before they are officially released in their country.
If everybody bought a Japanese PS3 for example then Sony in Europe and America wouldnt make any money.
There are other factors too. Like language and not every game released in Japan is appealing to western consumers. Same goes for western games not being popular in Japan.
