Does anyone remember the BBC Colour Trade Tests in the 1960's, just before BBC2 started ? People with colour TV's watched boring programmes about things like how petrol is refined, and the history of the pneumatic tyre, just for the novelty of seeing it in colour.

Will HD be like that ? Will people watch programmes that they wouldn't normally watch, just because it's in high-def ? I think they will. Well, at least they will be receiving an education, watching endless hours of Discovery HD :rotfl:

I was the same with nicam stereo, ears close to the screen checking to see if the new series of for example The Krypton Factor and Bob Monkhouse's $64,0000 question had stereo sound....

Judging from the number of Euro 1080 subscriptions, I'd say it was a dead cert.

Ever remember the very first CD players?

You'd go round someone's house for a demo and then look in dismay - "not Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms, again :thumbsdow

It wasn't long before I was put off Dire Straights for life. Which on reflection, was probably a very good thing. :)

On a brighter note. Many US TV shows (Lost, BSG, Stargate, and so on) are now being shot in HD so it wont be long before we are all seeing these shows in HD in other countries.

Of course what you are suggesting is illegal and certainly shouldn't be endorsed.

Its true that they can be downloaded, but my point is that there will be at least some decent content to show on HD TV once it is released in the UK.
I beleive that season 2 of Battlestar Galactica has been delayed in the UK, so im assuming that they are holding it back in order to show it in HD once the service starts up.

Subtle advertising ? Meant to remind you of a certain movie ?

There's no doubt that the porn industry will benefit greatly from HD TV. I've heard it said that the pornography industry subsidised the development of the DVD - maybe they'll do the same for hi-def ?

Sooner than you think - I read a review of a DVD last week that gave a rating of 5 hankies out of 5 for a new porn flick. It comes (excuse the pun - not intended) with plain DVD and a WMA-HD version - they talked about the lead actress and you can see her stretch marks - Yuuuuueeeeeeeeeeew!

Called something like Treasure Island 3 or some such....

We already have HD porno over here in America. Would you like a screenshot? :D

I'm sure that industry will certainly help HD DVD when it comes out.

....a friend told me it was called Island Fever 3 and a quick google on that gives you some "insight" as to what can be achieved in HD

*Disclaimer* I accept no responsibilty for any losses incurred should anyone follow the Googles link - hankies, eyesight or anything else for that matter that a non-perve like me can think of!!
