Hi there ive currently got sky-HD with about 2 months left on the subscription and we are not going to be continuing with it due to financial reasons!!

Im just wondering will the HD box still work as in terms of recording and pausing TV etc? Or will the whole service be cut off leaving the box useless??

    Cheers!!

I believe it will still work as a Sky+ unit as long as you subscribe to at least one mix.

I'm sure someone else can say if that's definite as I could be wrong.

If you only cancel the HD Pack subscription, but keep the Sky TV subscription, you will still be able to use Sky+ with the channels that you can view. Including the free HD channels.

If you cancel your Sky TV subscription, you won't be able to use Sky+ functionality with the free channels. Though you can pay £10 per month to activate Sky+ for the free channels (a mini-sub, if you like).

Either way, the box won't be useless. It will still let you watch the free channels, including the free high definition channels, even if you can't record them.

    Hi,
If you stop all your subscriptions to SKY then you will loose all Sky+ functionality and you will no longer be able to view programs previously recorded to your planner

    Cheers

Ok so basically if we cut all ties with Sky, the box will just be a basic freeview set with a few free extra SD and HD channels, and no recording functions?

    BUT

If we pay £10 pm (£120 a year) we get to use the sky+ function but only on the basic free channels!

Hmmmmm it may be worth paying the £10 pm fee until the freesat HD recordable box drops in price!!

Yes. You'll get these channels, plus BBC HD, C4HD & Luxe HD.

Yes, you'd be able to record the channels above - or as HD Monkey suggested, for an extra £7 (£17 total), you can subscribe to one mix & the recording functionality comes with it :)

Alternatively you may find the basic sky sub for an entertainment pack of 16.50pm gives you better value.
