Does anyone know if Arcam plan to produce DVD recorders ? I've had a look on their web site but can't find anything. I know they don't at the moment but it seems like lots of manufacturers are now getting into this.

I was just about to ask "Why" myself !
I would like a high quality DVD recorder and would have thought that with the reputation of the Arcam DVD players they could do something special

Why don't Lexicon or Tag or Naim or Linn etc produce DVD recorders either?

    's a bit downmarket isn't it? :clown:

Probably why Arcam (or others) don't produce any CD recorders either.

I don't understand why a DVD recorder would be considered as downmarket ?

Same reason a CD recorder is. ;)

Why don't the "quality" brands make them?

Linn's are not good, we have had 2 at work that have had to be sent back that were DOA.
Another one developed Sony-style disk drive faults, (skipping, freezing etc).

Not exactly on the subject I know, but how about a hard disk media server like the Linn server (Klyvert isn't it?). Again with their reputation for sound excellence I would have thought this would be a logical step forward? One I'd certainly be interested in at the correct price (Linn massively expensive)

JohnG - nice quote there - good old Lennon...

I guess "audiophile" companies assume everyone buys original copies, so won't need recording facilities - probably the same reason Naim/Linn never released tape decks (or MD for that matter) - although both companies had decks in development...

Arcam DID however make a tape deck...

Linn use Sony transports don't they? I hate Sony optical drives - I wish Rega would source a transport from someone who can manufacture them properly...

I'm guessing given the idiosyncracies with straightforward DVD replay a DVD recorder may not be ideal!

But they could also use them for recording The Proms or an opera ;)

or how about linn modify the KIVOR to record video and release it as a "multimedia" distribution centre for the home - that would be cool!
