I've read and heard from frankly dubious sources, that Microsoft's X-Box is a largely universal machine, in that it would be possible to import an American model and play European games on it, with only the need for a power converter to stop the thing exploding. And vice-versa. Can anyone confirm this at all?

If true, I think I'll wait till the inevitable furore over there has died down a bit and import a machine when they become more readily available in North America. It's going to be far cheaper to do that than buy an over-priced official European machine, isn't it?

Or do Microsoft have plans to deter this?

Microsoft have apparently not tampered with regional locking. They have however left a locking mechanism in apparently that Developers use.

So therefore it becomes a Developers choice.

    Regards Jenz.

One of this forums old regulars is in a development team for XBox at Microsoft in Ireland. ShabbyRoad.....is the name if I recall.

I asked him this very question about 3 months ago and he was VERY sure that no hacking would be possible and that it would be region compliant.
