Looking to spend up to £350 on a surrond stand speaker package. Problem is the wife will not tolerate floor standers anywhere in the room.

So I need something that can be wall mounted (front and rear) and offer good quality output for music and movies. Sub shouldn't be an issue as I can hide it somewhere!

    Any reccomendations?

This isn't much help because they are well over your £350 budget, but I have found the Anthony Gallo Micros to be very girlfriend friendly! Great looking and even better sounding speakers......

Gallos require sub though, that's well over his budget.

Can't really get a 5.1 system (active or passive?) for £350.

Kef Eggs are £600 for 5.1, really minimum you should spend - really cheap 5.1 systems sounds pretty awful.

You could try the Mission flat speakers, they're supposed to be good for the price and are nice and small. Is MartinCo around? He used to do all the mission fs2 av advice on here when I was looking at what to buy :)

What about things like the Mission FS1 or FS2 packages or even the Elac Cinema 1/2/XL packages. Are they really that bad?

    Super-fi were doing kef eggs for £75 each so 5 * £75 = £375 just over budget and add a sub later VX10 £199!!! or look S/H.

The Missions are flat panels, so don't expect them to beat standard speakers for overall sound quality.

Flat panels are great for dispersion & treble, but require a subwoofer for anything under ~240hz. Subs are not really suitable for upto 240hz, so you need a mid-woofer instead.

For example, Martin Logans- Ribbon for HF, and woofer LF (rather than a subwoofer)

Don't forget you need a amp with passive speaker packages.
