I have a widescreen(1.85:1) 'collector's edition' of TREMORS which will not play with the correct aspect ratio. With my widescreen TV set to wide the picture is a 'squashed letterbox' format with the images too short and fat. I can get a semblance of the correct ratio by increasing the picture height in cinema mode on my Toshiba TV. Other DVDs I have all play OK with the correct ratio - it is just this one has the problem.
Anyone else have this problem? Have I got a faulty disc? Is there something I have not tried?:(

    Sounds like it isn't Anamorphic.
I have to play movies like that on Zoom mode on my Sony widescreen TV.

I have the R1 version and it's definitely not anamorphic.

    Thanks folks.
OK so I have a non-anamorphic disc, but how should a properly set up player display the image? - with true image ratio, or, as I have, distorted (squashed) verticals. The zoom feature on the player expands both horizontal and vertical so this is not much use. My Toshiba TV has a 'cinema' mode which gives user control over height and width independently and this is the only way of viewing the picture in correct proportion.
Also, if non-anamorphic versions are to be avoided, how does one tell the difference before buying?
    Cheers:confused:

anamorphic discs, will say "enhanced for 16x9 or widescreen tv's" on back of the packet under disc details.

also on my sony Tv, i just use Zoom, which increases the height.
