When we all upgrade to fabulous HD and have everything connected up via HDMI or DVI, are we going to have to go back to manually setting aspect ratio on our screens? I realise that HD content will be widescreen, but what about the many programmes that will still be in old fashioned 4:3. Will we have to connect our set top boxes both with digital video connections and scart for non HD stuff. There will always be 4:3 programmes around and I can't stand watching them stretched out. Changing aspect manually drives me mad.

Why isn't line 23 aspect signaling better supported? This should work over any video connection and would solve all the problems. Don't manufacturers think that correct aspect ratio is important? Why should I have to change aspect manually when it is perfectly technologically possible to have it done automatically?
