Noticed some monitors with widescreen resolution, like the Samsung 22" LCDs with 1600x1024.

Are there widescreen graphics cards too?<br />Is it done in firmware, or can it be solved with a new driver?

you need a prog like "power strip" so you can change the resolution to what ever you need

graphcs cards tend to suport most resolutions but windows only tends to let to use the most common resolutions . so you will need a prog to to change to anything else

Not entirly true. The most recent drivers for Radeon and Creative cards include the windows 16x9 resolutions of 1920 x 1080 and 848 x 480 on windows 98, me and 2000. So you would not need to mess around with powerstrip.
