Why won't my E1 output 1080i to my projector?

I have a Toshiba HD-E1 which has the latest firmware update. I also own an Infocus Screenplay 7205 and using HDMI, I just cannot get my player to send my PJ a 1080i signal. It starts off outputting 1080i, but as soon as it registers my PJ as being connected, it reverts to 720p.
Now I know my PJ is a 720p model, but I would still like the option of using 1080i if I want to.
I also have Sky HD, Sony BDP-S1 Blu-Ray and even my X-Box 360 all connected via HDMI and they all send a 1080i signal to my PJ.

I can only assume this is a direct cause of the firmware updates as I am sure when I first received it, it did send a 1080i signal to my PJ.

Anyone else experienced this problem and if so, have you overcome it?

I have emailed twice to Toshiba support with no response at all!

P.S. I do have the resolution set to " Up to 1080i".....A little ambiguous those words "Up to" sound to me though!

I have my E1 directly connected to a Themescene H78 (also native 720p).
When I change the output on the E1 to 1080i, the pj re-syncs to 1080, but the picture stutters badly. :(
Running 1.3 firmware and connected via HDMI.
I’ve left the player at 720p and I’m happy with the quality. :smashin:
There must be something strange happening when your pj and player do the HDCP handshake.

Thanks for your reply Grumble. I suppose it may work with component then but any gain in detail I may get having 1080i will probably be lost in running a 20ft component cable!
Like I said, everything else comes as 1080i on the PJ, is the Toshiba the only one which uses the HDCP handshake? It must be the player I think.
720p does look fine, but I would still like to see how much better 1080i may look.

Thanks anyway for your comments. :smashin:

Hi- my E1 and Sony HS10 worked perfectly with 1080i, but my XE1 would only output 480i when connected to the PJ...! I eventually loaded the latest firmware to the XE1 and now it's great- 1080i no problem. Perhaps your E1 needs the firmware refreshed too?

Cheers
