I have just aquired a Philips DVDR70 recorder, its connected up ok, and works fine as a stand alone machine, I used Maxell DVD+RW discs to try it out, when I put them in my pc dvd drive they give me a fine picture, when I put them in my Hitachi DVD player all I get is disc loading and then lots of clicking....

as you can tell Im a bit new to all this technology, so could some kind soul give me some poiters so I can play my recording back in my Hitachi ....please :)

Welcome to recordable DVD! Unfortunatly not all discs play in all players. Compatibility with the write once -R or +R is generally 90% or more, but with -RW or +RW it is lower. Also some drives are fussy about certain media... so possibly another brand would work.

Take a look at http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers - put in your model number, and see if the reports say it will play +RW discs. (Stats from that same site say that 81% of players will play +RW, but that doesn't mean every brand...)

Are you sure your Hitachi DVD player can read DVD+RW?
(My samsung player reads -RW but not +RW)

Maxwell DVD+rw are quite well known for not working very well.
try Sony or Verbatim, I've neverhad any problems with those in my dvdr75

I use datawrite yellow and Titanium which I pay between £4 and £6 for 25 and have no problems

Have started to use Ritek silver top printables which when the image is printed on it looks very smart, better than a disc with scruffy writing on!!

Why don't you just give us the model number of your Hitachi DVD player, if you can't be bothered to follow the advice that's been given above by 'redsox_mark'.

"Make Edits Compatable" is on the main DVD menu

Cursor Up to the very top
    Cursor Right

    you should see it there

Well if you go to the page suggested and type in 'Hitachi', then there are 2 players of the model 505 variety: suffixed either 'E' or 'U'.

Unfortunately neither of them has a brilliant record at playing +RWs to start with.

Follow Jethro's advice, although that is just for edits and not the disc compatibility as a whole.

Something which might improve matters is to set the booktype of the +RW to DVD-ROM or DVD -RW, which the player is more capable of reading.

    To set to DVD-ROM:
Put disc in tray of DVDr70 - DO NOT close the tray
Press key '2' on the remote, holding it down all the time until the disc gets taken into the machine.
Wait until the noises stop, eject the disc and try in the Hitachi.

    To set to DVD -RW:
As above but use the key '3'..
