Can someone tell me what is technical reason for not having a plasma with 1080 lines in real 16:9 resolution 1920/1080

Why there are also hardly or no plasmas with 1280/720

These resolutions are HDTV, and what I see on the market are "computer type" resolutions and no TV resolutions

There must be technical reason for this

The manufacturing process is not far enough advanced to be able to build such units. You should also realise that the bulk of, ie over 90% probably, are used for commercial applications not tv watching so pc resolutions are more prevalent for that fact

Gordon, what would be your prediction for such units? Two, three years? Maybe less?
    Thanks

With the prevalence of pc resolutions it wouldn't surprise me if the next jump was to 1400 x1050 (one of the UXGA resolutions used by some pc manufacturers). That would surely be easier to impliment than the 1080 version.

Doubt the Xmas ones will hit this so probably at least another year and a bit. Should be exciting though.....

I think its to do with pixel size. Squeezing plasma pixels into a 42 plasma screen is harder because they are bigger than lcd pixels.
That said the 7 series Panasonics recently released have a 1080 42 in the series. I think its called the pz70 (the 768 being called px70) and is due out in the next couple of months or so.
