I can pretty much guarantee that if I make a car journey of 30 minuts or more I will see at least one shoe by the side of the road.

    Anyone else noticed this?

Where do they all come from?

    Why are they there?

Why just shoes, don't usuaully see any other types of clothing?

    Cheers,

    Nigel

I've just this minute got in and found this thread - on my journey home (around 25 miles) I thought exactly the same thing (and commented as much to my companion). Though the first shoe was followed by it's 'other half' about 200 yards down the road.

I'm taking some rubbish down to the dump tomorrow in a trailer, including a pair of old trainers wedged in at the top. If there is only one there when I arrive you may have your answer as to where some of them come from...

Since the fox hunting ban, there was a massive increase in foxes around london. They have become very common now, infact I think there's a den somewhere in my garden lol. All sorts of shoes scattered around. KFC and shoes seem to be their favourite when raiding dustbins.

for what John? I realise my discarded trainers are probably highly toxic, but I didn't think I needed a permit to throw them away :)

Drug dealers hang shoes over the telephone lines when they've been.

Probably just kids who have knocked them down.

BTW, i know a cop who told me about it.

I was going to post the same but thought someone would show it up as an urban myth.

(I heard it on a radio chat show one morning when someone asked the same question as the OP)

At our local dump you need a permit if you have a trailer.

Anyone else seen the large number of plastic bottles filled with a yellow liquid? Mainly on Motorways and dual carriage ways.

Thanks John. We don't so long as they don't think it's commercial waste.
