Because a standard VCR only outputs a composite signal.

    Should this work ?

SVideo (from DVD) into svideo to scart adapter then into JS Box (VGA to Plasma) then into RGBHV ports ?

Is there an industry standard colour for H and V of a component cable ? I have White and Black ?

No that will not work as the signal is still s-video. The Plasma VGA box needs an RGB input.

AFAIK all Freeview boxes have RGB out on the "TV" scart, but I suggest you check the specs.

Some boxes have 2 scarts, but all the ones I see only output composite on the "VCR" scart - same as a Sky box.

I'm currently trying to find a Freeview box that will output RGB and S-video at the same time, but not having much luck :-(

As far as I can see the Grundig box will only output composite on the VCR scart.

On my Grundig Sky box I only get composite out the VCR scart, but a RGB signal into the VCR scart is passed through to the TV scart okay, so I imagine your Freeview box is the same.

running a dvd through the vcr socket on a sky dig box will allow an rgb signal.

when i had my grun free2view/sky dig connected i had to wire them the other way round for rgb to be passed through.

so free2view to tv av1, and sky dig looped through the free2view vcr socket with both menus switched to rgb output.
