Just watching the uncut Batman Beyond DVD and was wandering why, with all its success Lucasfilm does not go the animated route for the Star Wars saga ?

All the source material is there in the form of the countless ( and mostly good ) novels and im sure that just the 1st Timothy Zahn trilogy would be an enourmous suceess.

Surely all it would take would be a suitable animation technique, something that fits, not TOO dark, yet not TOO kiddy and a suitable team would enable it to be not just a kids cartoon but something that fits into the enjoyable by all style of the movie.

Perhaps even have hour long episodes, use the movie music and sound effects.

    Surely a winner

The Phantom Menace had so many computer generated scenes I thought it was the animated version. :D

The pitfalls of 'Droids' and 'Ewoks' come to mind.

 Should never have been allowed, diabolical use of the license.

I suspect that Lucas has thought of it, the problem is that he is such a control freak that he is probably unwilling to let other people take control of the franchise and he is too busy to do it himself.

Did you enjoy the Timothy Zahn books Duncan? I don't wish to be arguementative, but personally I thought they were pretty poor - I thought he completely failed to capture the characters and 'feel' of the Star Wars universe.

I certainly agree that there is a lot of scope for far more than just 6 films.

Felt roughly the same, all the books where enjoyable for what they where but lacked something. Liked the Dark Horse comic books too.

An animated series would be great

I enjoyed the Zahn's first 3 books, what I particularly liked it gave the view point of the Empire.
