My monitor is CRT, and it can show hi resolution graphics...higher than 1080! Every one knows that crt produces the best picture, why can't we have 32 inch hi def 1080 wide screen crt tvs. Given the size is different than lcd but it would be awsome picture would it not?

dont understand why we can't have that!

Why can't you have that? Of course these do exist.
You mean it is not shown in your local shop? Ask the shop owner.

There is quite a number of HDTV CRTs, but mostly in USA and Japan, I think.
I once saw a JVC HV-32P37S (not sure) with 720p and didn't like it at all. The picture was really good, but this is a step back to the flickering era. 100Hz does not work with these sets. It can display normal PAL at 100Hz, but 720p/50Hz is just horrible. I definitely don't want to look at that for more than 10 minutes. But when you are used to old 50Hz CRTs, it may be ok.

Try Huge, Clumsy, Ugly, Expensive and quite probably not as good a picture as LCD. CRT's are not really that suited to HiDef and nobody is going to bother persuing and developing the technology due to lack of demand.

    Wave goodbye to CRT. :hiya:

I'm a big fan of LCD. Sure it has its flaws... but I would totally contest the idea that CRT gives a better picture. I find the slightly off geometry and big visible flickering scanlines a huge flaw - I do prefer LCD myself.

No doubt HD CRTs will materialise over here eventually and they'll be the most common for awhile, while LCD stays more expensive. But the way it's looking, LCDs are going to be the TVs of the future.

BTW jimsan, nice to hear someone like myself who's got good things to say about LCD - usually I just hear the old "the picture quality isn't as good" thing which I don't agree with at all. Just because it shows up the overly compressed nature of my Freeview signal doesn't mean that the screen's at fault!

actually you will find that the higher def CRT won best innovation @ ECTS last year.
Slimmed down to the average CRT and handled 720p for < £900.

Not sure whether its out in EU yet...

If they are the quality of 21-24 inch PC CRTs then they will be excellent - but I suspect they won't be.....

I got the mitsubishi pro-line diamond plus 22" CRT.

I was torn between the best 19" TFT and this, this CRT set me back £600 before xmas ( and they aren't made anymore :<) but still covered via warranty.

Never in my life have I seen such high resolutions, super fast refresh rates and good colour pallete.

CRT is and Will be much better than TFT / LCDfor years to come imho.

No they won't. I'd be stunned and amazed if we get any more than the odd dusting of CRT's in the HD market.

LCD, and various spinoff technologies, will remain the market leaders, (not including Plasmas, whose sales will continue to fade), and will become increasingly dominant as they improve...
