Have just bought a Philips 17PF8946 LCD to replace my Sony KV-14LT1U CRT which went pop yesterday morning. The majority of my viewing is satellite based so the only way to test it properly was to buy one and connect it up in my bedroom but I've found the picture quality to be a little disappointing.

In order to at least match the PQ of my old Sony CRT, did I do the right thing in going down the LCD route? Please ignore my ignorance but what are the real advantages of LCD televisions apart from their reduced size?

    thanks

LCD advantages are perfectly flat picture, perfect geometry, no visible scan lines, flicker free image. Sadly, the last of those two do a great deal to show up the inferiority of the current signals.

On top of that, LCDs have high resolution panels which means you'll be able to watch High Definition TV.
