It also has an RRP of £34.99 which never helps! lol

    £17.99 at HMV - I got it for £15.78 at DVDPacific.com

Bloody hell- I hate these things.

I hope they release a non combo version in due course.

Combo or not, there's no way they can justify that price. Seriously, is anyone going to buy it?!

£17.99 seems a reasonable price for a combo and probably what I paid for a US copy, and cheaper elsewhere as has been pointed out. My copy is a very good disc by the way, less convinced by the film but they have done some neat things on this disc.

I'm very confused now. I was under the impression that one side was a standard dvd and the other hd-dvd. However today I saw the actual disc, and it was only single sided. The packaging however clearly stated "Combo disc".

Yet another spectacular own-goal by the UK HD-DVD camp. It's NOT a combo despite a big sticker proclaiming it is and that it can be played on both an ordinary DVD player and an HD-DVD player.

Personally I hate combo's and only ordered the UK version as opposed to the American one because I hate combo's and it was worth me paying £16.89 to avoid the dreaded flipper.

But I hope Universal are prepared for a LOT of returns because all the packaging claims it's a combo format and that it will play on a DVD player. I thought maybe they'd done something clever with a single-sided combo disk, but no it won't play on a DVD player. So those who don't want combo's get screwed by a higher price while those who do (want a combo) find they have to go to all the trouble of returning the shrink-wrapped product because it's nothing like what it says on the packaging.

    Way to go UK Universal.

Honestly a kid of six could do a better job of launching a new format in the UK.

What a screw up. I don't even have a HD-DVD player yet - I am planning on buying one in the not so distant future but that isn't the point as I want to watch the SD version now.

If they haven't got replacement discs, then I'm going to expect the normal DVD from Universal.

So- its not combo, despite the fact it says it is?

Not the best PR move- but I'm happy about this!

Me too except for the high price. AND the fact that you get a DVD case with a cover, spine AND back cover all bragging about the contents being both an HD-DVD and a DVD.

Well tbh I paid £17.99 form US one from movietyme. I think that is a good price for new release. what you should be complaining about it the fact the hmv stores charge £29 for HD + BD not that it cost you £16-17 to buy it on line which I am sure is only a fiver more than the DVD version (that's a guess as I haven't bought a new DVD for ages) and not a bad price in my opinion.

Forgot about the box art- that is annoying.

I assume Unversial will cotton on to there mistake and either reissue the boxes or discs.

    I vote boxes.

Anyway, I'm also after an email address, phone number... anything I could use to complain with. :D

I contacted sendit.com and they said I was the first person to contact them pointing out the problem with the disc NOT being a combo.

I asked them to get back to me with details of possible replacement cover or Universal contact.

On the other hand I pre-ordered this title when it was £16.89 and I see it's currently priced at £27 even with an online discount applied. Sheer madness. Maybe I should just keep quiet and be happy with the totally wrong cover.

    Thanks KevD! :smashin:

I also bought it through Sendit at a bargain price and am a little worried about them catching on about how much I paid. :D Which is why I'd much rather go through Universal.

Finally got through to the relevant people at Universal, they're recalling all the DVDs and I was told I should go through the retailer instead of them. Aparently the recall is beginning today, so anyone who wants a single sided HD-DVD of the film should be quick.

So they plan to recall all the discs and re release at a later date.

If they were smart they would release two versions, a combo and non combo- they have all the non combo discs!

    hang on to these copies,
they may become valuable collectors items,
like postage stamps with the queen facing the wrong way.

I totaly agree with you dude, how is HD or Bluray going to take off when the average punter walks into Virgin or HMV and see's MI3 for £29.99, the high street prices are outrageous but thats rip-off britain for you, if thats the price most people think the films average at then they will be very reluctant to buy either an HD or Bluray player.

I got my HD player tail end of last year and im more than happy with it and i use my PS3 for Bluray although i personaly prefer HD and have about double the amount of films on HD than i do Bluray.

Shop online, its way cheaper and its delivered to your door, cant remember the last time i handed my cash to the conmen of the high street retailers.

Smokin Ace's £17.99 NTSC version as is everything on dvdworldusa.com
    http://www.dvdworldusa.com/shopexd.asp?id=56016
If you do order from this site though, do not pay anything for postage, you will still get it within a couple of days, have never payed myself and its never tooken longer than 3-4 days at the most for delivery.
