The KRP-500M has fewer inputs and no built in tuner yet I can get a PDP-LX5090 from my local dealer for £1800 whereas the KRP-500M is £200 more.

I am a huge advocate of PVR recording and the pioneer media box doesn't have that facility so I'm looking for something to use with Freesat HD+.

So is there any reason to pay the extra £200 for the KRP-500M to use with Freesat HD+?

    Yup, the 500A looks better.

They are thinner and are supposed to have a slightly better picture than the 5090 although I have not witnessed this in person so can only say what i've heard.

Check in the review section for a good review comparing the krp's and 5090.

Much better connectivity with the 500A, plus the KRPs have additional processing.

I don't think many on the forum regret spending the extra.

apologies for confusion in las sentence (now corrected) but I wouldn't be interested in the media box as it doesn't have a PVR. It's the KRP-500M vs LX5090 I'm debating. Will be using Freesat HD+ as source.

The KRP500M has a marginally better picture compared to the LX5090. The calibration tools are better on the 500M. 99.9% of purchasers probably won't see the difference. That last 0.1% will and if they invest in an ISF calibration their calibrator will be able to deliver a better result than he can do with a 5090.

The LX5090 just doesn't look as convincing as the KRP500's......just looks a cleaner image with better depth.

That's because the KRP is better.

Prior to buying the KRP A I demo'd both sets and to be quite honest I never noticed any amazing improvement. Only the seperate media box made me lean more towards the KRP.

    Hi phurst.
Apart from what has been said the M has some nice features as well :smashin: independantl settings per resolution/Hz per Input "no" preset is global so you could calibrate Pure mode (1080p) sepeprately for HDMI (2) and component which can accept a 1080p signal by the way. Also you can check the hours usage of the set. :p
    Cheers.

I went for the LX5090 and spent the difference in price from a KRP-500M on a Humax Foxsat PVR so got the Freesat HiDef twin tuner AND 320GB PVR function

Marginally higher quality components and build is what you're paying for.

I think this is where I'm leaning towards at the moment. Only concern is 'what if'........ Also would mean I can continue to use my Humax PVR-9200T (with Scart connection) for a bit longer and defer the Freesat purchase until later in the year.

I've had my 5090 calibrated and thinks it's superb. I can't imagine a better picture. I think those who opt for the KRP are just satisfied that they have the very top model but i am sure that they would be perfectly happy with the 5090. As you say, there will only be about 1% who'll notice the difference. Just my thoughts. :smashin:

The krp 500a has a satellite tuner and will reciever hd broadcasts it just isn't freesat approved. I have BBC hd on mine you just can't go interactive or get the epg up. Will tell you now and next only. All the same channels as you would get thru a freesat box accept I'd imagine the media box does a better job than alot of the crappy freesat boxes. BBC hd looks extremely good on alot of its programs. Just simply plugged an old dish that was already there into it adn tuned te channels. Wimbledon was particular good on 50" in hd.
