------------Ferdinand---Terry---Campbell--------

G. Neville---Gerrard---Lampard---Joe Cole---A.Cole

-------------------Owen---Rooney---------------

Terry is captain, Lampard vice-captain and Gerrard third
^ = Owen can get on with the job. Like he does anything with the captaincy anyway

Pros
  • Best 11 on pitch
  • Natural width on left with a proper left footer
  • Young + Carra can fill in for G. Neville
  • Carra + King can fill in for DC's in case of injuries - more than competant replacements
  • Can put Carrick, King or Parker in for more defensive stability
  • Can put SWP or Becks on for more attacking impetus
  • Defoe and Crouch as impact substitutes - pace and height
  • 3 in central mid means a rotation of one staying back + 2 going forward
  • I'd only require 30K a year for my salary
  • Obviously not biased and blinkered by celebrity
Cons
  • Reliant on Ashley Cole; who'll replace him?
  • Will going up and down flanks mean Neville and A.Cole tire later on in a match?
  • Best 11 is subjective - are above the best?
  • I have no managerial experience whatsoever
  • I'm an idiot
Please be kind to me :D

well obviously mr eriksson doesnt play pro evo as he would have experimented at home with his ridiculous team selections and formations.

you just dont swamp centre midfield with 3 of the most talented players england have produced.get some width and some pace on wings.

im rambling again......so tired.

eriksson will be sacked before the 2006 world cup.

Being a celebrity does not get someone into Real Madrids starting lineup week in, week out. Regardless that is ten good players you have selected. And Neville of course. However the winning side in the next world cup will be the side that comes together as a team. The 11 best players is by no means a guarantee of that. :)

Do you have trouble keeping your 'snake' trousered, so to speak?

If so - you're just the man for the job!

Oh, and do you have excessive salary demands?

That's another pre-requisite for the job...

If he stays on the right , putting in crosses . then yes I agree

:lesson: So downhill , so quickly
:nono: You don't have a 10+ year International career by being rubbish . Unless , of course , you score a great goal against Brazil . And get picked time and time again in the hope that you will reprodce that display

I doubt it , its how they play their game every week .

Your missing a holding midfielder of course , need to have a water carrier :D . Just not to sure who to have in there . Take Joe Cole out , Put in Carrick or King . Maybe Even Alan Smith , depending on how well he plays that roll for Utd.Thinking as I'm typing , thats an awful lot of defenders in the side , maybe Smith would be a better , more "attack minded" holding Player

Swap G.Neville for Beckham and that would be my first choice lineup too.

We're overrun with decent centre-halves and centre midfielders in this country, and beckham plays better on the right.... so what does Sven do?

Here's Svens probable lineup if he's still around for the finals:

------------------ Seaman ------------------

G.Neville ----------Adams------------- Pearce

------------Ince-----------Beckham---------

-------------Robson----Gascoigne-----------

-------------------------------------------------------------------F.Bruno

------------------Beardsley-----------------

------------------Owen--------------------

That's my effort. It has a much bigger emphasis on attack then defence, but it is well balanced with nobody really playing out of position (although you are always gonna have a little inbalance when you don't have a left-sided midfielder)

I don't see the point in playing three at the back these, despite having three excellent centre backs. Most teams seem to only play one up front and pack the midfield so you will be left with 3 players marking one striker.

Also with having three centre backs you are also do not have a holding midfielder to protect the centre backs.

4-1-3-1-1 is the way to go for England I think, so I can only vote a 'no' on this one.

One other thing. I am not convinced that changing the formation will have much impact on how we are playing under Sven.

He is a formidable team player. However his frailties tend to be shown up against the very best opposition. Personally I doubt he would have been an international player had he not come through the ManU youth side with Beckham and co.

to me that's the beauty of a back 3.. ?

you play 1 dedicated man-marker against the lone front man, and 2 'traditional' centre-halves mopping up..

whenever you're defensive the wide midfield players drop back, and you've got a regular back 4 in operation, with the oposition striker desperately trying to lose his shadow...

If you ask me, Brazil have shown that you can get away with a back four and still have two very attacking wing backs in Carlos and Cafu that can make up a 5 or 6 man midfield when attacking, but drop back into a back four when defending.

The problem with having two spare defenders in a back three is that generally that just stand in a line with the actual defending doing the marking rather than pushing up into midfield creating an extra man there.

Can the tabloids easily make a mockery of your name/features?

You really need to be able to be turned into a root vegetable of some sort.
Turnip and swede have been used already, what about parsnip or beetroot?

In my Pros, I mention swapping in a more defensive minded midfielder

Now that I have brilliantly answered these questions, vote Yes!

I voted no, but I'd think you'd do a great Job, and that is unlike an england manager so, because you're not inept, you shouldn't have the job.

I haven't voted for myself. How modest!

Although now that I'm behind, I may have to :D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

owen hargreaves, WTF

If I was Eng manager, he'd only be at an Eng game to watch the match from the stands!

I'd also tell Jenas, get into Spurs squad in CENTRAL position, otherwise his international career's over (not that its started)

I'd give Parker a chance in friendlies, playing him for 90 of course

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With MY formation (that everyone's is copying ;) ), Gerrard + Lampard could be allowed free reign if I drop Joe Cole for a holding player; King, Parker etc

Not me, football has evolved beyond 3 central defenders.......how many teams play with 3 these days? Do even Germany????

With 3 you are either effectively playing with 5 because the wing backs are having to mark wingers or you are playing with 2 wingers you are hoping can defend like defenders when required....SWP and Cole as wing backs :suicide:

Aren't Brazil 3-5-2? - with buck tooth behind front 2 in floating role?
