Good little video showing how Roosevelt's new deal actually prolonged the depression. It was always thought that the state can somehow make things right, but this shows that the best thing a state can do is to let the private sector do its own thing without trying to manage it. It tells how FDR had already abandoned his own policies prior to the Second World War. This is something that is never acknowledged in history books.

I think there is a strong case that America owes a large part of its boom to Britain.

Their economy was boosted by British rearmament from the mid 30s onwards, with significant sums of money transferred from Britain to the US, and the disposal of many British owned US assets at knockdown prices.

I'm not sure whether that counts as a market led recovery or state intervention though. ;-)

I see you're visiting ultra conservative right-wing US radio talk show host websites now, for your information.

Still into your labels then Mike ? ULTRA RIGHT wing......do me a favour. You have already proved you don't know what right wing means. Another failure. Now you are relegated to sniping. What a pity.

I call the sky the sky, but right wing and ultra right wing are pointless epithets unless you can explain what they mean. You haven't been able to do so and no doubt the next move will be the usual evasion and blustering.

I have no issue with you saying that it isn't a socialist, but far right and ultra right are just more descriptive bunk for socialists who have had their time and failed.

I think everyone knows that the American radio waves are full of right wing extremists that make Jeremy Clarkson look like Karl Marx.

What Karkus seems to be missing is that while the New Deal was probably not a roaring
Economic Success it was a political one. The Democrats held the White House 7 out of 9 times from 1933 to 1969. It created a Political consensus that sent the Republicans into disarray for a while.

Also it was WWII that kick started the US Economy back into rude health and set the stage for the US really getting into it's stride as an Economic Super Power post WWII. If not for WWII it would have probably taken a lot longer to crawl out of the Great Depression.

I didn't miss that it was a political one which is why its in the history books :)

I think that's what the article said. Clearly, even FDR had abandoned the new deal prior to the war. It was the war that got the USA out of the depression, but that doesn't mean that had they not gone to war, that FDR abandoning his policies would have resulted in a upturn anyway.

shall we list them?
Sean Hannity
Rush Limbaugh
Bill O'Reilly
Mark Levin
Ann Coulter

some of the more vociferous RW nut jobs

Oh the NeoCons. The problem for you, is that these guys are all for the same things you support, but with their own flavour of bias.

"Obama and Limbaugh appear to hold a common view of capitalism as a system of "rugged individualism": one condemns self-reliance; the other praises it. Neither of these two seems to appreciate the true nature of capitalism. It would not matter if confusion over the nature of capitalism were limited to just these two individuals. Unfortunately misconceptions regarding the way that capitalism works are widespread." From Mises.

I'm not sure if you can relate to the similarities and why both fail to see the obvious. One wants big corporates protected by big Government, the other wants the same big Government to re-distribute the wealth. In fact they are the same. Tax doesn't bother the NeoCon, they welcome it and the big State that goes with it. They are in their element, able to get what they want because they know how to work the system and that system protects them. The less well off want that system as well, it taxes the middle ground and not the NeoCon wealthy who are quite happy for it to be that way.

This is why Libertarians get a hard time. The NeoCons think of them as left leaning and the left think they are right. Neither are they in the middle.
