Why can't I view tape while it's being copied to DVD on my Panny E55?

I set up my Panasonic E55 DVD recorder, connecting it to my Panasonic Video Recorder, NTL box (with two scart sockets) and Sanyo widescreen TV.

At the moment the connections are (as recommended by my local TV supplier shop) :

    VCR AV2 to DVD AV2

DVD AV1 to VCR socket of NTL box

TV socket of NTL box to AV1 of TV.

However, when I copied my very first video tape to DVD, although it taped fine, I wasn't able to view the tape as it was recording, so I wouldn't have been able to edit it in any way.

Can anyone tell me if this is the norm, or should I be able to view it? What have I done wrong?

    Many thanks,

    Carrie

As a general setup point you should really connect the E55 between the NTL box and the TV:

NTL TV Out >>> AV2 on the Panasonic E55 and then AV1 >>> TV AV1

As for your VCR you should be able to hook it up to the NTL VCR In socket where it will loop through and record on your E55. Note you will need to set AV1 and AV2 on the E55 to Video (goto Functions/Setup/Connection) when recording from VHS and 'RGB' when recording from NTL.

    Hi Rasczak,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I'm a complete novice and I'm afraid things like "looping through" etc. are lost on me.

To be honest, this is driving me mad. :( I don't know where I am with all the connections.

Could you possibly put it down in layman's (idiots!) terms?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Carrie :)

From one idiot to another... :)

"TV" socket of NTL box to AV2 of E55

    AV1 of E55 to AV1 of Television

VCR (AV2?) scart to "VCR" of NTL Box

Have a play with that and ask again if there are still problems
