I am thinking about buying a Region 1 Dvd Player, but i am not sure if it is worth it. What if any are the benefits of choosing a region 1 player, and where can you buy cheap dvds
    Thanks

Do you mean you are going to buy a Region 1 only DVD Player or do you mean you are going to buy a Region 2 Player and hack/mod it to play Region 1?

As for benefits there are loads, getting films earlier, cheaper and Region 1 films alot of the time are available with extras or cuts of the film that are not available here so being able to play them is a must really.

    Hi Stu,

If you buy a region one player, you'll only be able to watch dvds from America.

You want a multi-region player, so you can watch discs from anywhere.
The advantage of having region one is availibilty of films before their UK release, cheap imports, and occasionally superior region one releases.

Most dvd players can play any region these days, often "out of the box" (no internal modification needed).
Players bought in the UK are set to region two, but can be multi-region enabled with a series of button pushes on the remote.

    Hope this helps.
    The Roohster.

Why not just buy a multi region DVD player? And have a look at the Recommended DVD Retailers thread for links to online stores selling R1 DVD's.

Agreed totally. Multi-region is the way to go.

My TV only accepts prog scan on NTSC, hence the R1.
