They are still around the £5 - 6 mark I notice. Is there a reason for prices not falling lower ? ie another type of media around the corner, blu-ray etc ?

Perhaps cost of manufacture/development? Also, there are almost no players that can currently record to dual layer discs, (outside of the pc domain). Demand is therefore small and prices are kept high. When the demand increases prices will fall. Personally 'm happy with my single layer dvd -r's at 25p each.
