The front-runners apparently include Richard E Grant, Paul McGann, and, er, Alan Davies eek.
That would be a different spin on things
None of the above.
Alan Davies seems to be the hot favorite at the mo.
Hmmm, I would have thought that Tom Cruise or Keanu Reeves would make a far better Doctor Who, especially after their recent sci-fi fares in Matrix and Minority Report. You could then have Sandra Bullock or J-Lo as their assistant. Obviously casting Mike Myers as the evil villain or perhaps a completely CGI created character that looks like a cardboard box and has the charisma of one too.
Did I tell you I have the casting association accreditation!
Jeffrey Archer with the frangrant Mary as the sidekick?
Didn't Paul McGann play the Doctor in a one-off TV movie? I seem to remember him being quite good in it (although it wasn't the greatest film ever).
I reckon Richard E Grant would be better: I think the role needs to be played 'quirky' rather than straight.
They could have the Doctor becoming a transexual and changing into a women!
My money would then be on Hayley Cropper
Ian Richardson top actor would be a great Doctor but more in the lines of William Hartnell than the action of Jon Pertwee.
I hated Sylvester McCoy as the doctor and though his portrayal along with the utterly stupid stories killed it off (was this a Machiavellian plan of Michael Grade), but thought he was very good at the beginning of the TV movie.
Alan Davis, NO I say, NO, comes across as a wimp.
Tom Baker still has the old devil in him.
I wouldnt mind seeing Jons lad in the role so long as they tempered the action down which would be in keeping with a younger actor.
Ant and Dec. One could be "Dr" the other could be "Who".......
I don't know, who?
Other people I think might do a good job:
I agree - Keanu Reeves has a great english accent..
Richard Briers ! You are on crack sir!
Personally let the thing die ...it never had much dignity in the first place [duck]
Tom baker just let it slip on bbc london news that Eddie Izzard is to be the new Dr Who - I don't think he was joking either. I think he's a excellent choice.
Blimey - I wasn't that far away with Hayley Cropper then
Some talk on This Morning today (3/10/03) of a part CGI lead role.
Richard E Grant for me.
I gather the Eddie Izzard thing was just Tom Baker being mischievous.
How about Anton Lesser?
It has to be Richard Grant!!! My money on it.
What about Richard OBrian the dark Dr Who.
None of the choices.
...or Geoffrey Bayldon
Either Freddie Jones or Richard O'Brien would have been a good choice a decade or two ago, but I think they're both past their peak now.
The question should really be "Who should play The Doctor in 2005", as Doctor Who is the name of the show, not the character.
I'll get my coat....
( Not to be pedantic ).
....looks like Catweazle, surely he must be in his eighties now.
Welcome back by the way
Ah, but you will note that, well into the Tom Baker era, the Doctor appears in the cast credits as "Doctor Who".
Separate names with a comma.
